BILLAWAR, Feb 20 : Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Billawar in District Kathua is in grimy condition as the institution faces negligence of Health department. Unpunctuality of staff members, shabby condition of wards especially 'Janani Surksha' Ward meant for pregnant women, laboratories, toilets, oxygen cylinders, dirty bed sheets, broken beds and window panes tell the sordid tale of SDH Billawar. People approach the hospital for diagnosis and get relief from diseases but they even get communicative diseases due to lack of proper cleanliness. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched ' Swachch Bharat Abhiyan' to make the country clean and free of pollution but it seems that the Abhiyan has yet to reach at Sub- District Hospital Billawar. Ramesh Singh, a patient, who was waiting for 2 hours to consult a doctor, lamented the non-punctuality of the doctors and other staff members. He said that doctors belong to Jammu and don't reach on time in the hospital. People, who are hailing from far-flung areas, come here for treatment but non-punctuality of staff members add to their anxiety. Makhani Devi, another patient, said no medicines were being provided by the hospital and they have to purchase them from private shops. The staff even asks the patients to purchase glucose bottles from open market that shows the malfunctioning of the hospital. When contacted, Dr Tejinder Singh BMO refuted all the allegations of the patients and said that Hospital provides available medicines to patients. He, however, accepted shortage of staff members and unavailability of appropriate facilities. |
