Dilapidated Baramulla roads irk shopkeepers | | | Early Times Report
BARAMULLA, Feb 20 : The condition of roads in Baramulla town is so bad that shopkeepers and residents are coping to live with it, while as local residents allege that due to the lackadaisical approach of R&B and PHE, people suffers lot as they are living in the medieval age. Suhail Ahmad Bhat a shopkeeper told early times that, "most of the roads in Baramulla town have potholes and lie in shambles with the vehicular movement at snail's pace, the concerned authorities have not repaired the roads which were damaged due to over flow of water, for which Public Health Engineering should be held responsible. We had told the Public Health Engineering to repair these pipes but despite passing of seven months, neither the water pipes were repaired nor the roads were magdimized by R&B, said Wani. Bhat says that, Road leading from Keriypa Park to Ahmad Complex and Masjid Irshad in Baramulla town is in a mess, due to accumulation of mud and large potholes in the middle of road pose difficulties to pedestrians, locals and especially shopkeepers. Another shopkeeper Javid Ahmad says that, "if there is a moderate to heavy rainfall that causes inconvenience which results in water logging and flood like situation in Baramulla town, especially you take an example of Keriypa Park, Premgali, Jhelum market and other places in the town. Due to the pathetic condition of the road, we are not able to make it to our work places in time," said shopkeeper. A group of shopkeepers told early times that, the place is not meant for small vehicles parking but all the area is encroached by the parking of vehicles and the whole of the pavement is beyond the usage of the public. Roads are in dilapidated condition, besides the vehicles, vendors cart are dumped there and it is virtually an area with no space on the pavement, they said. There is already a divider from Gurunanak Dev School and a 'U' turn at various places which further aggravates the problems and other inconveniences resulting in traffic jam in peak hours, shopkeepers added. Meanwhile the local inhabitant of Dewanbagh area says that, "many times in past we spoke to the concerned authorities of Roads and Buildings department (R&B) and Public Health Engineering (PHE) but they gave deaf ear to the problems. They complained that their vehicles have got damaged because of the bumpy roads as a result of which the maintenance cost of their cars has also risen manifold. |
