Early Times Report

MENDHAR, Mar 16: In a landslide, triggered by incessant rains lashing the region for the past two days, a girl was today killed while a portion of the alternate Poonch bridge was washed away. At least 20 kacha houses also suffered damages.
Salima Kousar (20), daughter of Mohammad Bashir of Harhi Marhot near here, had gone to the village spring to fetch water when a landslide struck, resulting in her instant death.
Due to the heavy rains, the Poonch river was heavily flooded as a result of which a portion of the alternate bridge built across it was damaged.
This bridge was raised after the Sher-e-Kashmir bridge built across the river was washed away in the last September floods.
With the damaging of the alternate bridge, people, who live across the river, have been cut off from the main Poonch town. The damaged Sher-e-Kashmir bridge was also yet to be reconstructed.
Meanwhile, at least 20 kacha houses were partially damaged and three cattle heads were fully damaged in Mendhar areas due to rains, the sources added.
