Early Times Report
Srinagar, Mar 16: The Health Minister Chaudary Lal Singh has been in the limelight since the day he took over the charge of the prestigious ministry. Soon after assuming the charge he left no stone unturned to humiliate the doctors in order to establish his writ and to announce his arrival.
Lal Singh took over the charge of the health ministry when Swine Flu had almost turned into pandemic and had claimed many lives in Jammu and Kashmir regions, but the minister paid little heed towards the burning issue and shifted his entire focus on whether doctors are wearing aprons or not.
The Minister stirred a hornet's nest by insulting a senior lady doctor Dr Gurmeet Kour for not wearing an apron. Then he (minister) during his visits to the different hospitals went on a rampage and reprimanded everyone from top to the bottom following which doctors are at loggerheads with him.
It's unfortunate that minister rather than paying attention towards making the medicines and vaccinations available for the Swine Flu patients concentrated on non issues. Presently people in the entire state are trying to find out the ways and means to save themselves from deadly H1N1 virus and want someone to inform them about the precautions that need to be taken to protect themselves from this deadly disease.
People were under the impression that soon after the political dispensation takes over the reins of the state people at the helm would take major initiatives to mitigate their sufferings, but till date the Health Ministry has not made any attempt to make the vaccines available either in the open market or the hospitals.
The health experts had suggested that people could get themselves vaccinated as a precautionary measure. They had even recommended that government should carry out a vaccination drive for the children as they fall in a "high risk group."
Health Minister Chaudary Lal Singh seems to have dismissed the advisory issued by the health experts. It seems the Health Minister is of the opinion that Swine Flu virus is no more active and he can relax.
Even if one considers the version of the health officials a gospel truth that "situation is under control" and there is no need to panic. Is it not necessary to at least take the precautionary measures? Someone needs to ask the Health Minister has he asked his department to take any steps to take precautionary measures to protect people from this deadly virus?
One hopes that someone stands up and makes the Health Minister understand that there are many issues other than doctors wearing aprons which need to be addressed and Swine Flu virus is ticking like a time bomb, which can explode anytime. So far more than 1700 people across the country have lost their lives due to them being infected due to this deadly virus. If Jammu and Kashmir doesn't take the precautions it can prove deadly in coming days.
No one is asking the Health Minister to provide vaccinations to people free of cost. He (Health Minister) can at least make any attempt to ensure that medicine needed to treat Swine Flu and the vaccines which can protect the people are made available in the open market so that people don't die for the want of treatment.
