| MoS also disappoints Dr Gurmeet | | Lal Singh above law | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 16: Dr Gurmeet Kaur, who was allegedly insulted by BJP MLA from Basohli and Health and Medical Education Minister Chaudhary Lal Singh, last week within the premises of Jammu Medical College and in front of her colleagues, students and patients, has been crying for justice and demanding action against the erring minister, but with no result. All her pleas and appeals have gone unheeded.
Even her threat to seek judicial intervention has failed to produce the desired result. She has been saying that no doctor with integrity and self-respect could tolerate the kind of treatment she was meted out and that she would take rest only after Lal Singh tenders an unconditional apology or action against him is taken.
It is not only Dr Gurmeet Kaur who has been moving from pillar to post to make the authorities act against Lal Singh, many sections of society have also demanded action against him. The Sikh community to which she belongs has also urged the higher authorities to take action against Lal Singh so that he doesn't dare to insult and abuse any Doctor in the future, but they remain unmoved. Many Doctors on their part have decided to take on the minister by not wearing the white apron. Lal Singh had misbehaved with Dr Gurmeet Kaur because she didn't wear the white apron during a function in the hospital she was not required to.
Mercifully, hardly any political leader worth his/her name has condemned the Dr Gurmeet Kaur episode. The BJP, which used to talk about the women cause and women empowerment, has disappointed the society all the more because not a single spokesperson of the party, including female spokesperson, has thought it desirable to condemn the abominable action of Lal Singh.
Who disappointed Dr Gurmeet Kaur and the people of Jammu all the more was BJP MP from Kathua-Udhampur Lok Sabha constituency and MoS in the PMO Jitendra Singh. Jitendra Singh, himself a Doctor, on Sunday visited Jammu, talked about Dul Hasti Phase II Kishtwar; inaugurated a national seminar-cum-exhibition, kissan mela, entrepreneurship programme and flower show at Chatha Farm, near Jammu; power generation; creation of employment avenues; patted his own back by saying that he performed exceedingly well during the past nine months as MP and MoS; highlighted his own achievements and achievements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also talked about Keediyan-Gandyal bridge in Lakhanpur area of Kathua district, 45 kilometer road linking to Punjab, Rs 80 crore Technology Park at Gaati (Kathua) and so on, but did not utter a single word to against Lal Singh and share the agony of Dr Gurmeet Kaur, his former colleague. He, like his other colleagues in the BJP, considered that incident insignificant. He came to Jammu only to highlight his achievements and went back to Delhi without saying a word of sympathy for the victim of Lal Singh's arrogance. The Jammu society noted with disgust the indifferent attitude of the MoS with many saying that it would be too much to expect leaders like Jitendra Singh sharing the pain and agony of the aggrieved Doctor. They said that "Lal Singh is above law" and added that the "likes of the MoS have no social role to play". |
