Early Times Report
Jammu, March 16: On one hand the doctors across Jammu and Kashmir have been extending full support to Dr. Gurmeet Kour, who had raised a banner of revolt against the alleged misbehavior by Health and Medical Education Minister Choudhary Lal Singh but quite contrary to it, Principal GMC has openly come in support of Minister, declaring the proposed strike of doctors illegal.
It could also be called the helplessness on part of Principal Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu, who declared doctors' strike illegal but to utter surprise of Principal the defiant doctors staged protest demonstration in favour of Gurmeet Kour.
The junior doctors association went ahead with proposed protest, from GMC hospital to Civil Secretariat Jammu, to show its solitary with Gurmeet Kour, who decided to take on powerful politicians like Ch Lal Singh with only aim to restore her dignity. But the defiant Lal Singh is yet to budge and accept his fault. Singh tried to justify his comment at various forums under the garb of "discipline" and setting the doctor's house in order.
Dr. Gurmeet Kour and around 60 to 70 junior doctors assembled in the premises of GMC hospital under the banner of Resident Doctors Association (RDA) Jammu and started protest march raising slogans "Beti Padhao Beti Bachao", We need Health Minister not a Monster" against the Lal Singh. The protest march, which moving toward Civil Secretariat, was stopped near Meshpura Chowk by large posse of Jammu and Kashmir Police, who were deployed from Civil Secretariat to GMC Jammu.
During protest, they demanded removal of Choudhary Lal Singh as Minister for Health and also demanded security to on duty doctors in the hospitals.
Reliable Sources told Early Times that on Monday a meeting was held in GMC hospital Jammu and in which it was decided to stop the protest or peacefully march on the pretext of affidavit, which was submitted by intern, to appease the Minister reportedly.
Principal of GMC hospital Jammu Dr Ganshyam Dev Gupta confirmed that as per state government order the doctors could not go for strike, protest and other activities which is against the rules. "When the intern doctors join the hospital, they also file affidavits in which they affirm that intern couldn't go for any activities which is against government rules, "he claimed.
On being asked about doctors' protest against the minster, he replied, we would see the entire matter and the action would be taken if required.
