Police bust JeM's network of OGWs, 3 held | | | S.Tahir-ul Haq Early Times Report KUPWARA, Feb 3: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday busted a network of Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant outfit at Handwara near here. " The OGW network, which was operating since April 2015, was involved in various subversive activities and had plans to target political workers, installations of security forces and police establishments in Kupwara district of north Kashmir," a senior police officer said. They OGWs were identified as Ghulam Nabi Lone alias Prince, son of Abdul Rehman of Udipora Langate, Umar Mushtaq Mir, son of Mushtaq Ahmad of Yaroo Langate, and Ishfaq Ahmad Parray, son of Ghulam Ahmad Parray of Mandigam Handwara. The officer said, "These workers were active in various parts of Handwara and had been providing logistic support to JeM militants and were close associates of a top commander of the outfit. With their arrest, a major tragedy had been averted as they were planning to make a big strike at Handwara, he added. Superintendent of Police (SP) Ghulam Jeelani said all the three were OGWs of JeM and had close links with a top JeM commander who was active in the area. They were involved in attacks on Telecommunication infrastructure and on police parties, he said and added that police had also arrested OGW Wahid from the area on January 8 last. Meanwhile, Al-Badr OGW Bashir Ahmad Dar was also arrested by a team of police and army some time back from Sagipora crossing. One Chinese pistol and some ammunition were recovered from his possession. |
