Early Times Report

JAMMU, Feb 3: As was expected by one and all in Jammu and Ladakh and elsewhere in the country considering their political bankruptcy, the local BJP leaders, who met with the State Governor on Tuesday to express their views on the Government Formation in Jammu and Kashmir, behaved in a most shameful manner. They lost all their credibility and became objects of contempt and ridicule with even the supporters of the BJP openly saying that "it would be sin if they go near them".
The so-called BJP leaders knew what PDP president Mehbooba Mufti had said in Srinagar on January 31 and February 1 and what she said after meeting with the Governor in Jammu itself. Her message to the BJP was loud and clear, but they shocked and humiliated the people of Jammu and Ladakh by reasserting that the coalition between the PDP and the BJP was very much intact, that they didn't know that she had set very tough pre-conditions for the Government Formation, that the PDP had not set any new conditions and that the BJP was committed to implement the agenda of alliance - the agenda of alliance that is being opposed tooth and nail by the nationalist constituency in the state and rest of the country.
What shocked the people of Jammu and Ladakh and the minorities in the state, especially the miniscule minority of the oppressed, suppressed and hounded out of Kashmir, the Kashmiri Hindus, was the 10-day time that the BJP delegation sought from the State Governor.
Talking to media persons outside the Raj Bhawan, the BJP leaders shamelessly said that the party sought this much time to sort out difference, if any, with the PDP. Not only this, they claimed that the BJP would see to it that the alliance remained intact. In fact, they made this claim on behalf of the people of the state. They said the people of the state wanted the coalition to remain intact and govern the state.
"The coalition was formed after great understanding between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and late Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed with a great vision for Jammu and Kashmir. If the latter would have been alive today, both parties would have jointly introspected on the one-year tenure vis-à-vis the 'Agenda of Alliance' and its further implementation in the state…We have sought 10-day time from the Governor so that certain pending issues could be resolved with our ally PDP…We have not received anything officially regarding demands on assurances. We are coalition partners and can sit across to resolves the issues, if there are any…The alliance with the PDP had been formed for six years and the party was largely in favour of continuing it for the whole period," one of the members of the BJP delegation said.
It was clear from what the BJP said after meeting with the State Governor that the BJP was more than willing to compromise the Indian stand on Jammu and Kashmir and further jeopardize the interests of the people of Jammu and Ladakh. The fact that they didn't question any of the pre-conditions and feigned ignorance and that they publicly stated that the BJP was prepared to renegotiate the Agenda of Alliance was a proof that the BJP had made up its mind to play a major mischief and undermine national unity, national integrity and the country's sovereignty and throw in the lot of the people of Jammu and Ladakh and the minorities with the Kashmiri leadership for the sake of power.
It is time for the people of Jammu and Ladakh and other oppressed and suppressed sections of society to beware of the BJP's machinations or watch with vigilance the activities of the BJP in the next 10 days or so.
