Another land grab scam surfaces in Kulgam

Kulgam, Feb 3: Another major land grabbing scam surfaced in this southern district moments after Vigilance Organisation declared that they have registered case against former minister and senior Congress leader Taj Mohiuddin for grabbing land in the district.
Early Times has learnt from reliable sources that authorities in Kulgam district are probing another land grab scam involving a top bureaucrat. The bureaucrat according to sources had enjoyed prize postings in previous NC-Congress regime.
Sources revealed that bureaucrat with the help of revenue authorities in Kulgam district tampered revenue documents to grab the prized state land in 2010-11 during settlement process.
"Revenue officials have changed the nature of state land in Guddar area to benefit some influential people" a senior officer pleading anonymity said.
He said that during the preliminary investigation it came to fore that the revenue authorities have changed the nature of over 500 kanals of state land during settlement process.
"Land in question was registered under section 4 but revenue officials have changed the nature of land during settlement process and registered under section 5," he said, adding state land registered under section 4 can't be utilized/encroached by any individual officer revealed that the bureaucrat, who has grabbed a major portion of land, has in past managed to hush up the scam and trick the authorities.
He said that the Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Syed Aabid Hussain has taken suo motu cognizance of this scam and has constituted a committee headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner Kulgam to probe the scam and tampering of revenue records.
Sources said that the committee has quizzed many officials as well as local residents.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Mushtaq Ahmad Seminani when contacted confirmed to Early Times that they are probing the scam.
"Investigation is going on and we are probing it to ascertain the role of revenue authorities," he said, adding committee will complete investigation within couple of days.
Pertinently, A Case FIR No. 06/2016 under section 5(1)(d) r/w 5(2) J&K P.C. Act sections 468, 471 and 120-B RPC in Police Station Vigilance Organization Kashmir was registered against Atiqullah Shah S/o Sonuallah Shah R/o Chimar Noorabad Kulgam and other officers/officials of Revenue Department and the beneficiary Taj Mohi-ud-Din S/o Khuda Baksh R/o Batamaloo Srinagar today for grabbing land and producing fictions records.
Taj Mohi-ud-Din is a senior Congress leader.
