Jammu, Oct 5: Close to the heels of Jammu celebrating its apparently ‘first major victory’ in the ‘battle of regional balance’ by getting the State government to push and Central government to agree on two Central Universities, there is debate going on in the region –is the discrimination story of Jammu a case of wheels within the wheels?.
The trigger of the debate is the question of regional balance and justice while the immediate backdrop is the ongoing process to fill up three vacancies of Judges at the Jammu and Kashmir High Court. And the most desperate question is: why there has never been a Muslim or Sikh Judge to the High Court from Jammu province?
“Jammu region has produced eminent legal luminaries drawn from its different sub-regions and communities but none of the Muslims or Sikhs could ever rise to the position of HC Judge. “This is a genuine outcry and we feel low about it. In reality, Mr Yasin was the transport minister in Ghulam Nabi Azad’s cabinet. He held this post till July 10, 2008, when the Governor, Mr N N Vohra, took charge of the state as Mr Azad had tendered resignation from the chief minister’s post on July 7, three days prior to that date.

Jammu, Oct 5: An indefinite strike of doctors demanding fulfillment of their long-standing demands, started in theJammu region here today.
Under the banner of Doctors Joint Action Committee (DJAC) an indefinite strike was announced yesterday by the junior doctors alleging state government’s ignorant attitude towards them.
‘’The members of the Committee had condemned the government’s ignorant attitude towards their demands,’’ one of the members told . They further added that the strike would be observed in all the health institutions of the region.

New Delhi: The term of vice chancellors should not be more than five years or they should not exceed the age of 70 years, according to the UGC which has unveiled a draft regulations listing a host of norms regarding services of the VCs and faculty.
There shall not be a reappointment of the Vice Chancellor for the second term in the same University. However, appointment for another term as Vice Chancellor is admissible in other Central/State University which shall be subject to the performance evaluation of the candidate.

New Delhi: The quality of life in India continues to be appalling with the country ranked poorly at 134 among 182 countries on the Human Development Index of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) that was released globally on Monday.
The ranking clearly shows India has slipped in comparative terms in ensuring a better quality of life for its citizens as in the previous index, published for 2007 and 2008 together, it ranked 128, while the position the year before was 126.
