Jammu, Feb 10: Work in all State Government offices, Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and Civil Secretariat, seat of the Government, came to a grinding halt across Jammu and Kashmir State on Tuesday after more than 4.50 lakh employees went on 2-day strike in support of their demand including implementation of the sixth pay commission recommendations.
The worst affected areas were Government-run hospitals including Medical College, its associated hospitals and the peripheral hospitals, where no routine surgery could not conducted or Outdoor Patients Department (OPDs) run due to the strike.
Patients have started deserting the Wards in Medical College, SMGS and Chest Diseases (CD) hospitals in the absence of Para-medical staff, who have gone on 2-days strike along with the Government employees.
Medical College administration admitted that all routine operations remained suspended on the first day of the strike and the same was the case with OPDs which couldn’t run due to non-availability of para-medical staff. Only emergency services were being carried out as they had... | |

Jammu, Feb 10: The Eleven-member University Grants Commission (UGC) team arrived here today to review the progress made by the University of Jammu during the last plan period and also to discuss the parameters of the 11th five year plan proposals.
On the basis of tenth year plan grant, the UGC would release the grants for the fulfillment of needed vacancies and establishment of the new departments.

Jammu, Feb 10: A CRPF jawan allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday by shooting himself with his service rifle in the outskirts of Jammu city, hours after an officer of the para-military force ended life in the state.
Raju - a CRPF jawan shot himself with his service rifle while on duty at Ghrota area in the outskirts of Jammu city on Tuesday afternoon, official sources said.
On hearing the shot, other jawans and policemen rushed to the spot and took him to a hospital where he was declared brought dead, the sources said adding the reason behind his taking the extreme step was not yet known. Srinagar, Feb 10: Overnight snowfall in high altitude areas and rains in plains further cooled Jammu and Kashmir as night temperature dipped in most parts of the state.
Kargil and Leh in frontier region of Ladakh remained under the grip of severe cold as the night temperature there dipped to minus 17.6 and minus six, respectively, MET office said on Tuesday.

Mumbai, Feb 10: In a startling revelation, India’s external intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) has unearthed a conspiracy by Pakistan’s ISI to kill Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone surviving terrorist of the Mumbai terror attacks.
The conspiracy came to light after RAW intercepted an Internet conversation from Bhuj in Gujarat.
