| Party strong, no place for controversies in NC: Sheikh Nazir | | | | Early Times Report
srinagar, Feb 6: Dismissing reports that there were strong differences and lack of discipline in the party, National Conference General Secretary Sheikh Nazir Ahmad said there was no place for controversies in the party.
"National Conference is not just a strong party but a movement in itself. There is no question of controversies or indiscipline, however, some people with ulterior motives are hell bent upon lobbying against the party", the NC stalwart said.
Nazir said NC was committed to restoration of autonomy. "We are fighting for it in whatever way we can", he said.
Sheikh blamed New Delhi for creating impediments in the way of restoration of autonomy to the State.
In response to a question as to why the party was still holding on to the coalition despite Congress' opposition to restoration of autonomy to the State, he said running the State Government in coalition is a "compulsion".
Lambasting people for criticizing the role of late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah in accession of the State to India, the NC General Secretary said the accession was done by Mahar...

| Amended legislation a 'rider' for fair polls for alliance this time | | MLC berths: PDP all set to win two seats | | | ET Report
jammu, Feb 6: With focus of coalition Government now on polls for MLC elections, 8 berths in the Upper House getting vacant by March , it has sent the political parties into flurry of activity, opposition PDP and two alliance partners NC and Congress having major stakes as per the electoral college for elections. Even as it depends on the nature of contest and number of notifications the coalition chooses to issue, a fair calculation in terms of votes in the electoral college gives PDP a strong edge and is all set to win two seats one each from Kashmir and Jammu region, comfortable victory on the former being a foregone conclusion. This, however, is subject to 'fair' process and...
| | | | A live programme that survives on archival footage | | | | Javaid Naiko
srinagar, Feb 6: Good Morning Kashmir-a show which was started on DD Kashir for achieving multiple objectives is fast losing its popularity-thanks to over dependence on archival footage and ‘inefficient' anchoring.
The morning show was started by ex-director Shami Shair to make the unheard voices of the people heard. Strategically Urdu was kept as the medium of the program, but strangely the title of the program was not in Urdu language but in English.
The anchoring of Masood Muntazir, the main anchor of the programme has also been questioned. He has been accused of dominating his co-anchors.
Many viewers also find it difficult to digest how one anchor of the show could ...
| | | | Political intervention galore in Information Department | | 3 more retiring officials seek extension | | |

jammu, Feb 6: The outgoing Chief Secretary Madhav Lal, who very recently resisted the move of granting extension to two retiring Special Secretaries in Chief Minister's Secretariat, is likely to come across yet another extension proposal before leaving the State. This time the extension is about three retiring officials of the J&K Information Department which is directly under the control of Chief Minister.
Sources privy to the Information Department told Early Times today that a proposal for granting extension to three retiring officials of the department is likely to be forwarded to the outgoing Chief Secretary. However, CS who could not oblige the Chief Minister bef...
| | | | PM clears Madhav Lal's posting in MSME, Govt still indecisive on new CS | | | | Syed Junaid Hashmi
jammu, Feb 6: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has inked the appointment order of Madhav Lal as Secretary in the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME).
He is all set to join the Ministry next week. Bureaucratic circles in New Delhi do not mince words in saying that proximity with Cabinet Secretary Ajit Kumar Seth helped Madhav Lal in securing a place in New Delhi at a time when it was being largely perceived that a south Indian Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises K.H. Muniyappa would prefer someone with south Indian background. They maintain that Muniyappa had hinted at bringing in 1979 batch Tamil Nadu cadre IAS officer S.Machendra...
| | | | Taj's gag order fails to impress HODs, private practice continues | | | | Early Times Report
jammu, Feb 6: It is almost three weeks now when the State Government had directed heads of the departments of Government Medical/Dental Colleges in both Jammu and Srinagar to abstain from private practice in the interest of patient care but some of the HOD's continue to violate the order without inviting any reprimand.
Either the different State Government agencies are in deep slumber or together they are hand in glove with the erring doctors and trying their level best to shield them by not reporting the fact that despite the ban the head of the departments have been indulging in private practice. A random visit to the clinics of senior doctors clearly exposes how seri...
| | | | FIR in all-girl rock band just not enough | | Fatwa against talent | | | Rustam
jammu, Feb 6: Jammu and Kashmir Police did well to identify around half a dozen Facebook users/fanatics who posted hate messages on the Facebook page of Pragaash all-girl rock band in Kashmir and lodge an FIR against some unknown persons who had violated the law of the land. | | | | Can Govt book those who issued statements, Fatwas against rock band girls? | | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Feb 6: Except for some 'twitter service' by the State Chief Minister and a little 'lip service' by other mainstream political leaders the blatant violation of the fundamental right of expression of three minor girls who formed the Valley's only girls' rock band has met no concrete opposition.
Both the State Government and the civil society have played it 'safe' while reacting to the 'Fatwa' issued by Valley's Grand Mufti against the three girls. Tormented and intimidated, the girls have quit and like so many other good things of the past, Valley's only all girls' rock band has also become history now.
It is really strange that while the State Police has lodge...

Early Times Report
jammu, Feb 6: Chief Patron of National Panthers Party (NPP) Prof Bhim Singh today said that Kashmir's first all girls rock band was nothing new as people in the Valley have been carrying the fragrance of Sufi culture for centuries.
"The Muslim fraternity in J&K has imbibed the great culture of tolerance and brotherhood for long. The girls' rock-band sparked a row only after the Chief Minister fired his twitter either without application of mind or with mischievous mind. Those who have been victims of the undemocratic, authoritarian and oppressive regime of the Abdullahs could not have got a better opportunity to hit back at the Twitter," Singh said in ...

Early Times Report
Srinagar, Feb 6: In absence of maintenance of proper inventory and index of ration tickets in the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department (CAPD) of the valley, a nexus of issuing fake ration cards is running in valley with every ticket being sold for a hefty sum.
