New Delhi, May 23: Oil companies have hiked petrol prices by Rs 7.54 per litre with effect from Wednesday midnight.
Also, an Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) is likely to meet Friday to discuss the pricing of diesel and LPG.
According to sources the price of diesel is expected to shoot up by Rs 5 per litre. With rupee depreciation leading to jump in oil import bill, Petroleum Minister S Jaipal Reddy had yesterday said that there was an immediate need to raise fuel prices.
State-owned oil firms said they will raise petrol price by Rs 6.28 per litre excluding local sales tax or VAT. The hike translates into Rs 7.54 per litre in Delhi.

JAMMU, May 23: A triple murder accused, who was wanted by Bhaderwah police and had been absconding since 2004, was today arrested by police from Solan, Himachal Pradesh.
Manjeet Singh, son of Hari Ram Bhagat of Drone in Prem Nagar, Doda, was wanted by police in a triple murder case for the past about eight years.
A case was registered against him at Bhaderwah police station under sections 302, 436 and 460 of RPC, and section 4/27 of arms act at Bhaderwah police station.
He was accused of having allegedly murdered Ghulam Nabi, his wife Sakina Begum and their servant Mohammad Azam at Chakrabati on the night of November 13, 2004, police sources said.
