CAG pulls up R&B engineers for bad performance, Government adorns them with medals | Hundreds of works executed without NITs, AAs; Liabilities worth 110 Crores created; Poor performance on Mughal Road, Narbal-Tangmarg Road | | Ahmed Ali Fayyaz
SRINAGAR, Aug 25: State Government's awards and accolades seem to be continuously jinxed since 2009. Doordarshan's Deputy Director General, Rafeeq Masoodi, has been placed under suspension by CEO of Prasar Bharti for "poor performance and indulgence in corruption" a year after he was decorated by Governor, N N Vohra, and Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, with the prestigious 'State Award' for his "impressive performance". Messers Vohra and Omar, in fact, only executed what had been scripted previously in the DD officials honour by then Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad. Yes, they conveniently shut their eyes to what was explicitly carried about the awardee's omissions and commissions in media for years.
This season last year, Omar Abdullah Government showered bountiful praise on then retiring Chief Engineer of R&B, Nazir Ahmad alias Ladakhi, while granting him a prestigious post-retirement rehabilitation. Ignoring reports that works worth hundreds of Crores of Rupees had been executed during his tenure as SE and CE in R&B Department, Mr Nazir was appointed Commissione...

| | Let NC led Govt learn to deserve first then desire | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 25: It is sheer irony. It is a case of desiring for the moon when the Government in Jammu and Kashmir does not deserve to wish even for the possible. For about years the successive State Governments failed to execute construction work for the 450 MW Baglihar phase II.
Even before the plan to build the power project was finalised the State Government started campaigning in favour of securing restoration to the State all those power plants that have been built and are being run by the NHPC. The campaign had, initially started by the PDP and the NC led Government wasted no time in scoring over the PDP by giving teeth to its campaign on the plea that since the S...
| | Gen Sinha opposes autonomy, self-rule | DELHI SEMINAR | | Rustam
JAMMU, Aug 25: Former Governor of Assam and Jammu & Kashmir, Lt Gen (retd) SK Sinha, who is associated with state from the day of its accession to India and who knows more about the Kashmiri politics than any other person in India, including BJP veteran and former Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani, has done well to reject the autonomy formulation and self-rule doctrine and urge New Delhi to retrieve the Jammu & Kashmir territories (Pakistan-occupied-Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan region) Pakistan illegally occupied in 1947-1948. He gave these sane counsels on Thursday while speaking in a seminar organized by the RSS-founded Jammu & Kashmir Study Centre in New Delhi. A number of ...

| | Dr Karan Singh finally breaks his silence | Duration of Amarnath Yatra | | Neha
JAMMU, Aug 25: Former Sadar-e-Riyasat of Jammu & Kashmir and Congress MP in the Rajya Sabha, Dr Karan Singh, has finally broken his silence and suggested that it is imperative to increase duration of Amarnath yatra so that as many pilgrims could pay obeisance at the holy cave shrine. Dr Karan Singh and his ancestors remained intimately associated with the yatra for no less than one hundred years. In fact, from March 1846, when Kashmir was merged with Jammu Kingdom, to 1947, when the State acceded to India, it was the Dogra Maharajas under whose skilful leadership that the yatra was managed. Even after the State's accession to India, Dr Karan Singh took deep interest in the yatra. He h...
