ET Plus Report

Jammu, Mar 14: The issue of alleged settlement of outsiders in Jammu and Kashmir haunted Legislative Council for the third consecutive day today.
The issue came into the fore today when, PDP member Murtaza Khan raised the question regarding settlement of illegal occupants in the state. In a supplementary he sought the reply whether any action was taken by the government to evict the illegal migrants who have settled in our state. "It was due to the sincere efforts of Forest Minster Mian Altaf that the land at Sidhra got vacated from encroachers. How will you justify your action when in your reply you are settling illegal migrants in Qasim Nagar area and other hand you are evicting people from Sidhra area", he added. Minister for Agriculture Ghulam Hassan Mir on behalf of Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies Minister, informed the House the Colony of Qasim Nagar based on 88 houses/families has been surveyed for regularization. We should adopt measures and a way out where there are old encroachments and concrete structures are built". Mir said that no habitations have come up on government land in Sidhra. Murtza further accused, "Non residents are being settled in these colonies. How the minister is going to justify the regularization at one place and not at the other and to the people who do not even have state subject. Assure the house that state subject rules are not violated. Expressing dissatisfaction over the reply of the minister Murtaza said, "This is not a concrete reply. Every time the issue is raised it is being hushed up". Murtza while referring to the Chair said, "For the third consecutive day this issue has been raised. You always come to the rescue of the minister, it is very unfortunate. This is an important issue on which government has no answer".
