Bashir Assad Jammu, Mar 14: An adjournment motion on the killing of five Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, moved in the legislative assembly by the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP), was today disallowed which led to walk out by the opposition NPP and BJP members. Deputy Speaker Sartaj Madni, who was in the chair today morning, rejected the motion moved by the three legislators of the JKNPP demanding that normal business be suspended and an adjournment motion considered on the situation arising out of the killing of five CRPF men by terrorists in a "fidayeen" attack in Srinagar on Wednesday. Madni said that since Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had made a statement in the house on Wednesday after the incident, and the house had voiced its concern on Wednesday evening, there was no justification for admitting the adjournment motion. Earlier, NPP leader Harshdev Singh strongly condemned the killing of 5 CRPF jawans in militant attack saying that it was a security failure. "The security forces were fighting a proxy war in Kashmir and the demand for revocation of AFSPA has demoralized the security forces. He said the government which is also a part of AFSPA revocation politics should immediately resign as it has failed to boost the morale of the security forces in the state. Harshdev Singh lamented that the house did not have time to discuss such a major issue as the fidayeen strike, while it had discussed last week the Feb 9 execution of Afzal Guru, convicted of conspiring the 2001 attack on Parliament. Ashok Khajuria of BJP said the fidayeen attack took place because the terrorists were glorified by the members of the house due to which they got moral boost and killed the CRPF jawans. He said that taking side of terrorist by the members of this house has demoralized the security forces who are fighting against Pakistan in Kashmir. Professor Chaman Lal Gupta of rebel group of BJP, Jugal Kishore of BJP, Balwant Singh Mankotia, Ashoke Kunad and Ashwani Sharma condemned the killing of the 5 CRPF persons and demanded immediate discussion on the adjournment motion moved by NPP legislators. Muhammad Sharief Niaz of Congress also registered his protest by condemning the killing of CRPF personnel in militant attack. When Sharief was addressing the chair, Er. Rashid interrupted him saying let Delhi resolve Kashmir issue, killing will automatically stop. However, Deputy Speaker Sartaj Madni said, since the Chief Minister who is the leader of the House has already condemned the incident on the floor of the house so there was no reason to admit the motion. "I, therefore, reject the motion" Deputy Speaker said in his ruling. On this the NPP and BJP members raised slogans, "security forces ke khilaf sazish band karo, band karo, Hindustan ke khilaf bolna band karo band karo, desh ke dushmanu ko brusht karo, brusht karo' and staged walkout from the house in protest against Deputy Speakers ruling. While walking out of the House, Ashoke Khajuria of BJP made some objectionable remarks which angered M Y Tarigami who shouted, " CRPF personnel getting killed was shocking, don't communalize the deaths, why are you discriminating among the deaths, why are you silent over the death of innocent people who get killed in security forces firing". It merits a mention here that chief minister, in his statement in the house on Wednesday, had said that the five CRPF men were "martyred". Omar Abdullah, after making the statement, left Jammu for Srinagar following the killing of a youth, Altaf Ahmad Wani, in CRPF firing on stone-pelters. |
