NC, PDP commend Vajpayee
Bemina terror attack

Jammu, Mar 14: The March 13 terror attack in Bemina, Srinagar, as expected, triggered a fierce debate with the NC and the main opposition party hailing BJP veteran and former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayees's Kashmir policy and the BJP spokespersons on the private news channel debates not saying anything about the Vajpayee's Kashmir policy but denouncing the Congress's policy on Jammu and Kashmir. The BJP spokesperson had no argument to defend Vajpayee. On the other hand, the NC and other Kashmir-based parties sticking to their stand that India, not Pakistan, is the culprit and suggesting that had Vajpayee been in power, Kashmir problem would have been resolved satisfactorily and India-Pakistan relations normalized long back. What did the NC and the Delhi-based Kashmiri leaders says while condemning New Delhi, demanding revocation of the AFSPA and solution to the so-called political solution to the so-called political problem of Kashmir (read patently communal problem in Kashmir and demand seeking segregation of Kashmir from India on the ground that it is a Muslim-majority region) and holding the hanging of terrorist Afzal Guru responsible for the Bemina terror attack, which left five CRPF personnel dead and at least eight others, including three civilians, injured, some of them fatally?
They condemned New Delhi without mincing words, exhibited their hatred for everything Indian, hailed Vajpayee as a great statesman referring to his "Insaniyat ke daire mein" solution to the Kashmir issue and in one voice held the Indian State responsible for the alienation of Kashmiri Muslims (read the well-entrenched and highly prosperous, over-empowered and unaccountable Kashmiri-speaking Sunnis) from the national mainstream. Vajpayee had negated the very idea of India State and subverted all the cardinal principles of statecraft by suggesting a solution to the so-called Kashmir problem within what he described as "Insaniyat ke daire mein".
Vajpayee is the same person who before coming to power at the Centre had declared at Tangdar in Kashmir that "Article 370 shall ever remain an integral part of the Indian Constitution" and as Prime Minister ridiculed and snubbed the people of Jammu saying it had become customary with them to criticize Kashmir and hold it responsible for Jammu's political and economic neglect. He had insulted the people of Jammu during the civic reception given to him by the people of Jammu in the presence of the then State BJP president at Abhinav Theater, Jammu, and immediately after he extended at Srinagar his hand of friendship to Pakistan in the presence of the then Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and PDP president Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. It is, however, true that Vajpayee had not, unlike another BJP veteran LK Advani, rejected outrightly the demand in Jammu for separate Jammu State (read his Lucknow statement). (Advani had, on the other hand, described the demand in Jammu for separate Jammu State as a prescription "worse than the disease".)
Anyway, if one reads even superficially about what the NC and the main opposition party's spokespersons said while participating in the private news channels debates on Wednesday night on the Bemina terror attack carried out by the Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Jammu and Kashmir-based terrorist organizations like Jaish-e-Mohammad, Lashkar-e-Toiba/Jamaat-ud-Dawa, Hizbul Mujahideen, to mention only a few, (read Islamabad, Pakistani army and dreaded Inter-Service Intelligence), then one can say without any hesitation that the Kashmir-based political organizations are no more than the extensions of the Pakistani organizations all out to bleed and break India into smithereens and that their single-point agenda is to force another communal partition of India on the lines similar to the ones which resulted in the communal partition of India in August 1947 and the emergence of Muslim Pakistan as an independent and sovereign country and displacement of population on an unprecedented scale.
However, what they said was not that important in the sense that they said was what they had all along believed in as ardent believers in the concept of two-nation. What was important was what they said about Vajpayee. It is time for the BJP leadership to make a statement in public that it does not subscribe to the views of Vajpayee on Kashmir. It is imperative. They must remember that the Congress Government at the Centre is simply pursuing the policy Vajpayee had devised.
