Rajouri, Mar 14: After the militancy almost wiped out from Budhal tehsil in Rajouri district the army units deployed for counter insurgency operations are working for the socio-economic upliftment of people of area in south of Pir Panjal, where majority of Gujjar and Bakarwals reside. Once the hot bed of militancy the area is still one of the most backward area in Reasi and Rajouri districts where majority of the people live below poverty line. With a noble gesture, aiming to provide a platform and ground situations where peace and normalcy can flourish Army’s 60 Rashtriya Rifles Battalion based at Samote (Budhal) has launched an initiative to incorporate Corporate Sector under the vision of ‘Corporate Social Responsibility’ to provide job opportunities to the local poverty ridden populace. To involve the corporate sector in this noble endeavour Army has sought help of Jaipur Rugs, a leading handmade carpet manufacturing enterprises of India having an annual turnover of more than 20 million dollars and exporting its product to 30 countries, and organised workshop cum awareness camps at Budhal , Chassan, Kani and Kotranka. 300 women were apprised at each place about the mission of Jaipur Rugs and will be trained them in carpet weaving. “The company will provide raw material, designing, marketing including of export of finish products which will provide monthly income between Rs 5000-6000 per month besides their domestic responsibilities,” said Sanjay Singh from Jaipur Rugs. According to unit officers army has planned to provide all assistance to the company in opening centres at Kotranka, Kandi, Budhal and Chasana. This would not only generate employment for the ladies but would provide financial independence to hundred of families. The firm will also buy wool available in the region at competitive prize for carpet manufacturing which will further improve the economic condition of locals. |
