| BJP’s ‘Civil Secretariat Gherao’ bid foiled in Jammu, hundreds court arrest | | | Mishu Gupta Jammu, Mar 14: Police today foiled the Bhartiya Janata Party’s (BJP's) Gherao' of J-K Assembly by resorting to cane charge amid clashes while hundreds of BJP activist along with their MLAs were court arrested for violation of prohibitory restrictions near Civil Secretariat Jammu. BJP had called for state-wide protests at all district and tehsil levels today against corruption, mis-governance in Jammu and Kashmir besides failure of National-Conference-Congress led Government on all fronts and had been campaigning for the last few days to make it a success. Earlier led by the State BJP Chief Jugal Kishore, a large number of party activists including four MLAs took out a “Assembly Gherao' march, protesting against the alleged failure of NC-led government on the security front. Carrying placards and banners and raising anti government slogans for its alleged failure on all fronts, the BJP activists marched through main bazaars of the city and reached Indira Chowk. A heavy deployment of police restricted their movement and did not allow them to proceed as the district administration has already imposed section 144 CrPC areas around the Legislative Assembly including Indira Chowk. However the agitated demonstrators forcibly tried to move ahead following their scuffle with the police. The BJP protestors made repeated forcible attempts to move ahead towards Civil Secretariat but police deployment foiled their repeated attempts by stopping them from moving ahead towards the proposed destination i.e. the Civil Secretariat Complex. In the process police had to resort to lathi-charge to disperse the protestors some BJP leaders and others sustained injuries. Around two dozen activists also received injuries in the clashes and lathi-charge. During the melee some BJP activists including women managed to cross the barricades created to block the march reached to Shalamar Chowk situated close to the Legislative Assembly but they were later court arrested. They said that the refuges, migrants, farmers, employees, educated unemployed youth have grievances but no one cares. They said that the party will not allow this government to take people for granted and adopt anti-people, anti-Jammu and pro-separatist policies. Meanwhile similar protests were reported from outside the district headquarter.
