'Molestation' of minor: Agitated locals protest, clash with security forces
CPI(M) MLA Tarigami stopped barred to visit tense area

Kulgam, Aug 21: Agitated over alleged molestation of a minor, the Locals held a protest demonstration today in Bugam of Kulgam district in South Kashmir by one of her relative. The demonstration took ugly turn when the protestors clashed with police which foiled their bid to march towards Kulgam town.
There are reports that police keeping in the view the situation has barred CPI (M) leader and MLA kulgam, Mohd Yousf Tarigami, who was scheduled to attend a condolence meet in the area. Reports from area stated, a 7-year-old girl of Bugam, Kulgam (name withheld) was coaxed by his relative Tariq Ahmed Dar son of Mohammad Shaban who allegedly took her to a nearby field and molested her.
"As the news spread in the area after the victim disclosed her tale of woes to her parents, people blocked Bugam-Yaripora road and staged a massive protest demanding immediate arrest of the culprit, reports said.
According to sources from the area, the agitated protestors tried to proceed towards Kulgam town, however, deployed security forces troopers stopped them, which provoked protestors, and they resorted to stone pelting.
Reports also added that during the clashes, which lasted for hours, at least nine people including 6 policemen were injured when police used tear-gas and opened fire in air to disperse the mob agitating for over the demand of stern action against the culprit. Prot4estors also alleged police for taking the matter insensitively.
Meanwhile a police official on anonymity told Early Times that they have already taken the cognizance of the incident by arresting the accused. "We raided the house of the culprit however he fled from the spot. We arrested his brother and released him after the accused surrendered before the police," he said. Police has also registered an FIR vide 216/2013 under section 376 of RPC against the accused and started investigation in this regard
