Early Times Report

Srinagar, Aug 21: Terming Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's slogan of "peace for prosperity" as another hypocritical stance, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today said that state government has, in fact, emerged as biggest threat to the peace in the state.
In a statement issued here today, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti today said that the disturbing reports from Shopian and adjoining areas testify the fact that the state government was deliberately subverting the peace and disturbing lives of the citizens. She said that a virtual reign of terror has been let loose in Shopian and it seems that deliberate attempts are being made by the state government to alienate youth under a sinister design to keep them away from the genuine political and development process.
"It looks like that state government is targeting youth of rural areas under a plan to create conditions of resentment and anger against the system as the National Conference has done the same in Srinagar and other urban centre to reap the rich political harvest from the disturbed conditions", she said and added that people were trying to come out of the shocks after incidents like Gool and Bandipora but the government was deliberately to create disturbed situation. Joining the party president, the local MLA Abdul Razak said that hundreds of innocent youth have been rounded in the district.
The two leaders said that Shopian market was observing strike for many days and the administration has failed in its ability to reach to the people to solve the problem peacefully. Instead of trying to suppress the anger by application of oppressive means, the government should show its wisdom by releasing the youth and allow the people to do their normal business.
The PDP leaders said that shops in Shopian area were today forcible opened by breaking the shutters to enforce a fake normalcy on a day when Chief Minister was visiting the area. But behind the scene the police has been targeting the youth with the application of brute force and restored to indiscriminate arrest.
