| Geelani pours venom on VDCs, says majority community feeling insecure | | Crossing the fine line | | Rustam JAMMU, Aug 21: When will the NC-Congress coalition Government and the law and order authorities act and put behind bars permanently fanatic, inhuman, blood-thirsty and separatist Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who pours venom on each and every institution of the Indian State everyday? It is this inaction of the authorities that has emboldened him and his ilk to say whatever they want and do what they want. On Tuesday, Geelani, a Pakistani agent, crossed the fine line by holding the Village Defence Committees (VDCs) responsible for the August 9 gory incidents and made an outrageous statement that the VDCs have created fear psychosis among members of the majority community. "Until the VDCs are disarmed and dissolved, threat will haunt and prevail in Chenab valley and Muslim Community will feel insecure," he said, and added that "occurrences of such incidents in future cannot be ruled out" as the State Government is incompetent to manage things. "Expenditure incurred on VDCs is an unnecessary burden on State exchequer and huge amount is being spent over oppression and excesses perpetrated by these committees. For all this, the communal elements and State Government are responsible…Dissolution of armed wings of Sangh Parivar is inevitable for maintenance of communal harmony and brotherhood in the area. It will put an end to present turmoil and thereof the differences between the two communities…Until culprits responsible for August 9 incidents are arrested, innocents (read armed anti-India elements) released and VDCs dissolved, no guarantee for return of peace can be given…Hurriyat is closely monitoring the situation. We stand by Muslims of Jammu province and won't leave them at the mercy of communal elements. We will raise our voice against the excesses and would try to seek the help and moral support of non Muslim brothers on the basis of mutual human relations," he, inter-alia, said in a statement. Geelani, it appears, has turned mad and that is the reason he is making such nasty statements against the VDCs and minority community. It is the minority community whom fear psychosis has gripped. It is members of the minority community who are under grave threat. The situation is such that some of them are planning to quit their homes and hearths like the Kashmiri Hindus did in early 1990 to escape the extremists' wrath. What Geelani said on Tuesday just cannot be tolerated. The authorities must act against him forthwith. How can they allow a criminal and rebel like Geelani to break the law of the land and abuse and threaten the minority community? |
