| Swarankar, Sarafa Bazars to observe 2-day strike | | | Et Report Jammu, Sept 4: Taking strong exception of the massive raids in the Lakhdatta Bazar and Jain Bazar in Jammu by sleuths of Income Tax and Sales Tax departments on Wednesday, traders of both these markets held protest against the alleged harassment. Jointly led by Swarankar Sangh President Kulbhushan Anand and Sarafa Association President Parjan Jain, hundreds of people gathered at Jain Bazar and raised slogans against the manner in which the people associated with the trade were subjected to harassment in very rude manner. Speaking on the occasion, Kulbhushan Anand and Parjan Jain said, "In the early hours of Wednesday, the officers and staff of Sales Tax and Income Tax departments raided the houses of our membersand their business establishments. The families of these members were shocked to see the entry of these officials into their houses. The manner in which the raids were conducted reminded of the British Rule when there existed no law of the land and unilateral decisions were taken and implemented."They said that the traders have always co-operated the government departments and "we have been paying all our taxes and other dues on time." "Not only this, we are providing employment to a large number of unemployed youth. We are an important part of the society and have a status among the business community as well. Instead of appreciating our community, the government has behaved in a very inhuman manner, which is very unfortunate and has invited resentment," they added. Swarankar Sangh Jammu District General Secretary Ajay Vaid announced that the Swarankar and Sarafa Association will observe complete bandh in whole of Jammu District in protest against the "uncalled raids and the behaviour of the members of raiding teams, who have treated us in very inhumane and unsocial manner." |
