BIJAY CHARAK
Jammu, Sept 4: Hundreds of students hailing from far flung areas of Jammu province, who have taken admission for various Post Graduate courses in Jammu University for the session 2013-14, are facing tough days, as JU authorities have failed to allot hostel accommodation to them.
Sources informed Early Times that around one month has passed since the completion of admission to various PG courses, but till date accommodation has not been allotted to deserving students.
"The students of last session, who had completed their PG courses vacated their respective hostels before July, 1, 2013 and since then many seats in hostels are vacant but delay on part of JU authorities to make allotments is casting heavy on students on account of their studies", sources said.
A student of PG, Avimanyu Gupta said he boards a bus for Jammu at Kathua and reaches the university at 3 when the classes are off. "At 5 I board the bus for Kathua only to reach home late in the evening," he said. "In such a hectic schedule, I am unable to manage my studies", he said.
Castigating the JU authorities, another PG student, Arti Khajuria said that in all other universities including Jawahar Lal Nehru University, Delhi University, Guru Nanak Dev University, the University authorities seek hostel accommodation form along with the admission form and complete the formalities soon. But in JU, they seem indifferent to the problems of the students.
Moreover, many students from far flung areas are presently residing either in the houses of their relatives or on rent accommodations. "I belong to RBA category and got admission in PG, but due to delay in hostel allotment, I am presently residing in a rented room.
My father is daily wager and it is now become unbearable to afford the expenditures", Bharat Kotwal said.
M.Phill scholar said that when Vice Chancellor Mohan Pal Singh Isher had taken over charge, they were hoping that various issues would be solved, but nothing has changed yet and even VC has failed to ensure early hostel facilities to students."Some days back, the JU authorities started giving forms to students for hostel facility but it will take many more days for the students to avail the facility", an official of JU said.
