| Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry opposes imposition of property tax | | | Jehangir Rashid
Srinagar, Sept 4: Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCC&I) has taken strong exception to the state government's proposed decision to impose property tax on the residents of Jammu & Kashmir. The Chamber has decided to oppose the imposition of Property Tax in the state and said the decision would impose further financial burden on the residents of state. The Chamber termed the government's decision as irrational and unwise and said the people of state would feel that the state government is hell bent on taking anti-people measures. The Executive Committee of KCC&I in its meeting deliberated in detail the government's proposal to impose property tax on the residents of the state. The Chamber said the decision has caused unrest among the people and they are highly worried over the state government's plan to go for further taxation. "It has been unanimously agreed that imposing any type of Property Tax on the people who have been suffering damages of all sorts over the past nearly 25 years is unwise. The decision is based on rationale of structure reform being implemented in an assumed stable political social and security environment which is illusive," said Mushtaq Ahmad Wani, Secretary General, KCC&I while sharing details of the meeting. Mushtaq said that the Chamber appreciated the apprehensions raised by the experts on the imposition of property tax on the residents of Jammu & Kashmir. He said the abnormal political situation in the state does not warrant any further imposition of tax on the residents. He added that imposition of property tax can prove to be harmful and dangerous in the overall context. "The state government should understand that the economic condition of the people is not great that fresh taxes are imposed on them. The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry shall therefore, oppose any such move as it has done in the past," said Mushtaq. He on behalf of KCC&I appealed the state government to rescind its decision on the matter and consign the proposal to the shredder for the good of the people and peace and prosperity of the state of Jammu & Kashmir.
