SRINAGAR, Sept 4: The musical concert of renowned instrumentalist Zubin Mehta is all set to cause trouble to the people of summer capital more so to those living in the vicinity of Shalimar Garden, the venue of the programme being organized on Saturday, September 7.
Meanwhile, the traffic police here today issued traffic advisories on September 7 on the famed Boulevard Road. The advisories are all set to upset the plans of the locals of the area and also the tourists who are on nowadays enjoying the beauty of Kashmir. According to the advisories as issued the movement of people on the Boulevard Road and Foreshore Road would be restricted on the day of musical programme.
Police and security forces have virtually taken over the Shalimar and adjacent areas since the past few days. The security agencies are taking no chance in holding of the programme while ensuring that there is no disturbance during the course of the programme. Nakas have been set up in the areas falling in the vicinity of the programme and security has also been beefed up.
Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel have also erected barricades at some places in the Srinagar city. They are subjecting the youth more so those driving the motorcycles to questioning as part of the security preparations being put in place for the musical concert. Reinforcement of police and security forces has been made at the sensitive places so that there is no untoward incident on the day of musical programme.
Security forces personnel could be seen dotting the Shalimar area and this has given an impression that the musical programme would be held in tight vigil. On September 3 during the visit of German Ambassador Michael Steiner security forces personnel entered the Shalimar Garden and took stock of the security arrangements put in place for the musical concert programme. It is quite likely that authorities would impose restrictions on the movement of people in the Shalimar and adjacent areas from Friday (September 6) evening till the conclusion of the programme. Traffic on the busy Boulevard Road is also likely to remain suspended from Friday evening to Sunday morning since the programme on Saturday would run for more than two hours from 5 PM.
There are chances that police and security forces would lay a siege around the Municipal Park here near the General Post Office (GPO) on September 7 since Coalition of Civil Societies (CCS) is organizing a parallel programme in the name of 'Haqeeqat-e-Kashmir' (Reality of Kashmir) at the park. In the meantime the traffic police have asked the residents of Shalimar and adjacent areas to finish off their assignments on September 7 by 1 PM since the area would be sealed off later until the musical programme concludes.
As per the statement of Superintendent of Police, Traffic City Srinagar the Boulevard and Foreshore road shall be free from traffic movement on September 7 from 1 PM. The SP Traffic City said that all types of vehicles except visiting dignitaries shall be diverted at Ram Munshi Bagh towards Dalgate and all sort of vehicular movement except tourist vehicles shall be diverted at Badyari towards Khanyar to reach to their destinations while as the tourist vehicles shall only be allowed up to Nehru Park.
