| Apex Committee on migrants loses relevance | | | early times report JAMMU, Sept 4: With nine members having already resigned, the Apex Committee on Kashmiri migrants, which is meeting in the Summer Capital on September 9 has become an irrelevant body. The Committee had drawn a flak from the Community earlier too and its members were accused of being puppets in the hands of Government to stamp the decisions of Government without thinking whether they are in the interests of the displaced people or not. The failure of the Committee to exert pressure to get the PM's employment package of 6,000 jobs for displaced Pandit youth declared over six years back implemented in letter and spirit. The Committee is also facing the allegations of not taking any effective steps in solving the problems of the displaced youth, not taking the issue of temples and shrines forcefully with Government by demanding passage of Shrines Bill, solving the problems of over aged youth who are hankering for jobs and have no source of income except the relief provided by Government, allotment of quarters to remaining families at Jagti, construction of more shopping complex at Jagti and improvement of power and water supply in the camp besides settling the other demands of camp inmates. Dr R L Bhat a community think tank and another leader Vinod Pandit had resigned from the Committee terming it irrelevant body, Later some more members including Piray Lal Raina and senior Congress leader Ashok Bhan followed suit. They leveled serious allegations on the Government for making the Committee a tool in its hands and delaying the welfare schemes for Kashmiri migrants. However the senior KP leader and president ASKPC H L Chatta also decided to boycott the meeting of September 6 along with his senior vice president R K Raina in protest against the Government's callousness towards the community. Chatta conveyed his decision to the Government recently saying that in view of the Government's failure to take effective steps in mitigating the sufferings of the displaced people from Valley, he has decided to boycott the meeting slated to take place on September 6 at Srinagar. Besides two more members from Valley have also stayed away from two consecutive meetings of the Committee earlier thereby ceasing to be its members. The decision of Chatta and other members have been hailed by the Community and they have urged the Government to disband it as it loses its relevance now.
