Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 4: The sleuths of Income Tax Department from Punjab and Jammu circle today conducted surveys here in atleast seven jewellers in Jain Bazaar area, who were allegedly evading tax despite several warming to them. Sources said that surveys were conducted by different teams of IT who also took help of local police while carrying on their operation. They said that the jewellery shops like Talla, Silver Line, Vijay, Roshan, Raman Suri, Krishna, Kanya were surveyed while residence of one of the known jeweller at Sector -6 in Channi Himmat was also surveyed by the IT team. However none of the senior officers from the IT department was available for comment despite repeated attempts to get their view. Sources in the IT department said that close watch being maintained on all these jewellers due to their heavy expenditure on advertisements and promotional activities. It is pertinent to mention here that last year in September Income Tax department had exposed the tax evasion worth crores of rupees from the five plush Jewellery showrooms in Jammu. Meanwhile, Swarnkar Jewellers Association (SJA) and Sarafa Bazar Association (SBA) has given call for two day shut down in view raids. They said that they have already faced heavy loss due to Kishtwar violence and later curfew imposed in Jammu. "We are already facing so much problems due to the curfew imposed in Jammu after the Kishtwar communal violence but rather than giving us relief they are raiding our business establishments", association has said. Few days back sleuths of Income Tax (IT) Department had conducted raid at three places including clinic of a cancer specialist in Jammu, Dr. Ashutosh Gupta. Officials had conducted raid in head office and branch office of 'Aakash' institute at Gandhi Nagar and Kachi Chawni respectively, simultaneously another team conducted raid at the clinic of Dr Ashutosh Gupta, a known oncologist at Krishna Nagar, Canal Road. |
