SRINAGAR, Sept 3: Faced with pressing man power shortage, the functioning of fire services has been crippled in the State with authorities at the helm of affairs taking no effective steps to improve the same. According to sources, out of 3500 posts in the J&K Fire Services, 1000 are lying vacant but no steps have been taken to fill up the same. Sources said the J&K Fire Services organization is totally in shambles at present but no effective steps are being taken by the Government to improve the same. It is pertinent to mention here, large scale concerns have been expressed by legislators with regards to inadequate fire station in their constituencies. Further, the enquiry ordered by the government after revered Dasgeer Sahib shrine was gutted one year back has made no mention of the functioning of the Fire and Emergency Services Deptt. The shortage of manpower has affected the functioning of the organization. Another major drawback is that there is no training centre for the firemen and officers in the State. Sources said that the organization has created over 60 stations without formal sanction by Government. This has also affected the working and performance of fire services in the State and demoralized the staff, sources added. The constant stagnation amongst the rank and file has demoralized the staff, sources said, adding the senior officers are at same place of posting and on the same posts which they held decades back. Sources said there is no proper transfer policy in the organization due to increasing political influence and for decades together no transfers have been made even after the promotions. |
