Early Times Report Kulgam, Sept 4: People went on rampage, smashed the windowpanes of JCB and attacked two government officials after the district administration demolished 'illegal' structures in Hanad Chowalgam area of district Kulgam. Reports said that the district administration had allotted 17 kanals of land for truck terminal purposes. People of the area had illegally occupied the land and some portion was taken away for creating an Id-gah. Government acted swiftly on Wednesday and besides dismantling the plinth constructed for Id-gah demolished three more structures raised illegally by three persons namely Manzoor Ahmed Najar, Ghulam Mohi-u-Din Shah and Zahoor Ahmed Khandey. Police along with Municipality and revenue officials arrived in the area. As the demolition drive was started, people resorted to heavy stone-pelting and attacked the district officials. Police used canes and tear-smoke shells to disperse the mob. Aharbal-Shopian-Kulgam road got blocked for hours. During the clashes, six people including two officials were injured. The injured officials were identified as Khilaf Warzi Officer, Municipality Committee Kulgam Bashir Ahmed Wani and JCB operator, Muhammad Rafiq Zargar. People alleged that government is acting against helpless people and sparing 'big fish'. They demanded that all the illegal structures should be demolished in the district. (CNS) |
