| Team JKDF expresses disappointment over Kishtwar fallout | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 4: The team Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Front that recently visited the trouble torn Kishtwar area to take the on spot stock of the situation has termed as inhumane, the Government approach that no relief has been provided to the victims of communal frenzy in Kishtwar even after expiry of over three weeks although large number of families have been virtually rendered destitute and looking for helping hand. The members expressed their disappointment that the Government had made loud promises to compensate the losses and provide relief to the victims but on the ground nothing has been done. "During our visit to ravaged city of Kishtwar we saw places of highly sad occurrences and heard the woes of the victims of the wrath. Signs of loot and plunder clearly indicate that all was planned and selective. The shops and the market were selectively looted and even put to fire. Heavy machine including JCB was used to break open the shutters and doors," said Surinder Sharma, State General Secretary, who led the JKDF team. He said that the highly intriguing was the approach of the Government machinery including the police although the Minister of State, Incharge Home affairs, who also happens to be the MLA of Kishtwar, was there alongwith large police force but little was done to check the miscreants who remained on prowl for hours and the army took over the control in the evening. Fairness demands deep probe in to all what has happened there. The actions of DC/ SSP are under clouds. Despite being the offices of these functionaries including Police Station only at distance of few yards from the scene of this hooliganism, they remained spectators. and CBI probe needs to be initiated against the negative role played by the duo in this whole incident. Ram Kumar Founder Member, JKDF while describing the strange situation prevailing there said, " Most of the shops have been burnt and looted. Large number of vehicles selectively put to fire. Many residential houses were also attacked. But it was a strange phenomenon that the Government leaders are asking the traders and shopkeepers to resume their work. The question is that where are the shops and goods to resume the trade. Many well off businessmen have been turned paupers. Realising the gravity of the crisis the people facing there, JKDF voluntarily collected donation Rs. 6.50 lakh for the sufferers of these riots. "Although amount collected is insufficient to cater the volume of losses suffered by the victims, but it conveys strong message that all the people of Jammu are behind the Kishtwar people and share their grief equally," said Surinder Sharma. |
