| PIL against alleged land-grabbing by politicians, bureaucrats | | DB directs state to disclose name of encroachers | | early times report JAMMU, Sept 4 (JNF): In a much publicized Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against alleged nexus between politicians, police officers, bureaucrats in connivance with land mafia in various parts of J&K for alleged land-grabbing, Division Bench of State High Court Wednesday directed state that complete information divulging names of those be disclosed to this Court so as to take a view for further course of action and needful shall be done within four weeks. When the PIL was taken up before the DB comprising Chief Justice MM Kumar and Justice Hasnain Massodi, Additional Advocate General HA Siddqui appearing for the state has filed information with regard to regularization of land under the Roshni in the Court; the same is taken on record. Advocate SS Ahmed appearing for the PIL brought to the notice of the Court that huge area of State land is in illegal occupation of the land mafia which includes bureaucrats, legislators and others as per the allegations. According to the reply filed previously 2046436 kanals of land was under illegal occupation of land mafia and other encroachers in J&K and 604602 kanals of land was regularized under Roshni Act. Adv Ahmed appearing for the PIL submitted that regularization of land under Roshni Act, has expired in 2007 and the information divulges in the answer to the starred question is some where in the year 2012-13. However, vital part of the information has been withheld by not divulging the names of those are in illegal occupation of this land as is evidence from answer to the question which says that the exact information regarding particulars of illegal occupants of the State land is voluminous. He stated that citizens of the state are entitled to know the identify and names of illegal occupants of the state land and would also be interested in their evection so that the public exchequer is not deprived of the revenue as well as the valuable land grabbed by the those persons which as per allegations is about 20 lakh kanals. Upon this the DB after hearing advocates Ahmed with Suraj Singh for the PIL and advocate SK Shukla for the CMA, senior AAG Gagan Basotra and AAG HA Siddqui for the State and senior advocate Sunil Sethi with advocate Veenu Gupta for the RB Educational Trust, directed state that complete information divulging names of those be disclosed to this Court so as to take a view for further course of action within a period of four weeks and list this PIL on September 30.
