| Pakistan desperate to push militants into JK before winter | | | Majid Ahmad Srinagar, Sept 10: With winter approaching fast around 250 to 300 battle-ready militants are waiting on the other side of LoC to cross into Indian side of Jammu and Kashmir before snow closes the infiltration routes, sources told Early Times. "The militants are waiting on 42 launch pads which have been set up on the Pakistani side of LoC to facilitate the infiltration of the terrorists into the Indian side. Militant handlers across are desperate to send as many terrorist as possible to Kashmir before the infiltration routes close due to snow," sources revealed. Pakistan army's desperation is also evident by the fact that there has been substantial increase in the number of cease fire violations this year. "There have been more than 80 ceasefire violations this year which is almost 80 percent more than 2012," they added. Sources said that under the garb of heavy firing on LoC in different sectors, Pakistan army is trying to push terrorists into Jammu and Kashmir before next year's Parliament and Assembly elections. "Intelligence inputs received by various Army formations in Jammu and Kashmir appear to suggest that infiltration attempts are on the rise after the State Government's move for a partial withdrawal of controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA). Army officers have suggested during routine meetings that infiltration is taking place from almost every side of the LoC following the AFSPA removal din," they added. A senior Army official said they have confirmed inputs that Pakistan army had moved 200 militants very close to the LoC during heightened skirmishes on the LoC last month with a view to facilitate their recee on the LoC for their infiltration in future. "By helping infiltrators Pakistan is eyeing 2014 elections in Jammu and Kashmir. They want to push the militants and present months are opportune time. In the next month or so, the passes would start closing due to snowfall," he said and added, "Efforts from Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir based elements to spawn enhanced level of violence in the State by scaling up infiltration and smuggling of arms and ammunition from across the LoC continue." Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh, general officer commanding, 15 corps, which is responsible for guarding the LoC and counter insurgency operations in the Kashmir valley had last month said that terror infrastructure was intact on the Pakistani side of the Line of Control. "There are number of terrorist camps and launch pads (across the LoC)," he had said. To counter the infiltration, Army besides keeping a tight vigil is also considering to construct an all-weather fence on the LoC to create a fool-proof obstacle to ensure zero infiltration (of militants) in a bid to root-out terrorism completely from Jammu and Kashmir. |
