| NHPC's good in JK undermined | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 10: The good job done by National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) in Jammu and Kashmir is not being appreciated by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The transfer of 500 mega watt Dul Hasti Hydro Electric Project II to joint venture is a great loss to NHPC, which has brought up the stage I of the project. With this act of Omar Abdullah, it seems has opened a new front against NHPC for not allowing it to explore the hydroelectric potential of the state and earn money. Omar wants to get hold of the good job done by the NHPC and earn money without putting any effort. Speaking during the Power Ministers' conference in New Delhi, the J&K Chief Minister pressed for transferring the Dul Hasti HEP II from NHPC to joint venture, which has made his intentions clear. The Task Force accepted the demand of the Chief Minister and agreed to allot Dulhasti-II HEP in Joint Venture mode. It is a fact that NHPC has been taking care of Dul Hasti HEP stage I and has prepared the ground for construction of stage II and the State Government knows this fact very well that it will not have to spend much money in bringing up the project. NHPC is running various power projects across the country and generate revenue from these projects by selling the power to different states. It is the only hydroelectric project construction company in the India which has reached at the top. The central Government must understand this fact that if unnatural and illegal demands of Omar Abdullah are accepted, then NHPC will run in loss. Because many other states in the country will demand transfer of power projects to states and NHPC will be left high and dry. At one hand Omar Abdullah calls for better cooperation between center and State Government and on the other side he tries to snatch everything from central agency. It is for sure the State Government will bow in front of centre to demand money for construction of power projects in the state but still cries foul in the name of transfer of projects. |
