Mohd Irfan JAMMU, Sept 10: In what could be termed as an irony of misfortune, Banihal, the Constituency represented by MOS power Waqar Rasool is facing worst blackouts with some villages without electricity for weeks. Many a villages have still been deprived of electricity even after six decades of independence. The tall claims of State Government of reaching out to masses in rural areas and providing them with basic amenities fall flat as people of Banihal still stay in dark. People blamed the apathetic and indifferent attitude of the Government. Residents rue that successive regimes ignored them and assurances of reaching electricity to them have proved to be hoax. The areas which still san electricity include Dhanmasta, Mahmoo, Ladnihal, Suranga, Tatka, Senigham, Nillahal, Paristan villages etc., which together have a population of over thirty thousand. "We are mused by statements of the Chief Minister who swears by state's huge power potential and getting power surplus in times to come" said a resident, "We are yet to see the light close to seven decades after independence" he added. Astonishingly, in these areas despite lack of electricity, several students Qualified in the prestigious KAS and other competitive exams. "We were hopeful after Waqar Rasool, our MLA became the Power Minister that our power woes shall come to an end, or at least improve to some extent, but nothing has changed" said another resident. People allege that successive Governments played with their sentiments and left them at the mercy of God. "Recently when CM inaugurated Baghlihar power project, he patted his own back for putting in efforts to exploit power potential of the state, but did not utter a word for those villages which san power" said an anguished resident |
