| Kamaal continues to ridicule the Congress | | Coalition dharma, NC-style | | Rustam JAMMU, Sept 10: On September 8, Union Minister for Renewable Energy and NC president Farooq Abdullah asked his party men and younger brother and party additional general secretary Mustafa Kamaal to exercise caution while speak on any issue so that the NC-Congress coalition remains intact. "You talk something and we (NC leadership) have to bear the brunt. You should be cautious of what you talk so that there is o damage to the coalition," he, among other things, said while addressing party workers in Srinagar. It was not for the first time that Farooq Abdullah advised his party men to behave and not say anything against the Congress. That he had to advise his party men again on September 8 was an admission that there were persons in the party who had paid a scant regard to his counsels. It was none other than Kamaal who continued to target, abuse and ridicule the Congress leaders, including AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi and JKPCC chief Saif-ud-Din Soz, despite the instructions to the contrary. There was hardly any day when Mustafa Kamaal did not lambaste and condemn the Congress and New Delhi and charge them with hatching conspiracies against the NC, Kashmir and Kashmiri people (belonging to one particular religious sect). So much so, he had asked Rahul Gandhi not to interfere in the affairs of the state. The truth is that Mustafa Kamaal crossed the line again and again, but neither Farooq Abdullah nor Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who is also working president of the party, reined in the NC additional general secretary, thus creating an impression that all the three Abdullahs were working in tandem or as per a strategy evolved to paint the Congress leadership black and harm its interests not only in Kashmir but also in Jammu. That Kamaal overlooked his brother's September 8 advice could be seen from what the former said about the Congress just a few hours later. He lambasted the Congress for its stand on the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Kargil. So much so, he accused the JKPCC chief of using undemocratic methods to grab power in Kargil and challenged the very victory of the Congress in the council elections. He said the Congress victory was not above board. Not just this, he attacked the JKPCC chief for his statement that the party will approach the court to get the Kargil council issue settled. The anti-Congress attitude of Kamaal and his ilk should not surprise anyone. For, the likes of Kamaal say what they believe in and go scot-free. The reason is that there is hardly any Congress leader in the state who has the guts to take on the NC leadership. The local Congress leadership only obeys the diktats of the Congress high command and swallows insults and humiliations as its faithful workers. They have no say whatever. They conduct themselves in the manner they are directed and that's the reason Mustafa Kamaal and ilk tear into the Congress leadership on a daily basis. Indeed, the plight of the local Congress leadership is pathetic. |
