JAMMU, Sept 10: Defending champion, Post Graduate (PG) Departments and runners-up, Government Degree College (GDC) Kathua among eight teams today qualified for the quarterfinals stages of the ongoing inter-college men's badminton competitions, organised by the Department of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu (JU) at J&K Police Indoor Hall, here.
While PG Departments got walkover in the second round today after getting bye in the opening round yesterday, the GDC Kathua team outplayed Bhartiya College of Education 3-0.
Other teams reaching the last eight stages are The Law School, GDC Udhampur, Government College of Engineering and Technology (GCET), GDC Hiranagar and Government MAM College. Among these quarterfinalists, GDC Hiranagar got walkover SRS College and PG Departments awarded walkover GDC Thanamandi.

Pre-quarterfinals: GDC Kathua beat Bhartiya College of Education 3-0: Singles: Avishek Gupta bt Arvind 21-11, 21-0; Ankit Mahajan bt Mond. Azeem Banday, 21-06, 21-05. Doubles: Avishek and Ankit bt Arvind and Azeem Bandey 21-06, 21-05.
Law School beat GDC Samba 3-2: Singles: Anurag lost to Manish Verma 21-08, 21-15; Chander Dev bt Jitesh 21-13, 21-12. Doubles: Chander and Akhil lost to Jitesh and Mukesh 21-13, 16-21, 14-21. Reverse singles: Himanshu bt Satvir 21-08, 21-05. Reverse Doubles: Anuragh and Aditya bt Satvir and Sunil 21-09, 21-12.
GDC Udhampur (boys) beat GDC Paloura 3-0: Singles: Vinayak Gupta bt Kaushik Gupta 21-12, 21-11; Rajat Gupta bt Digvijay Singh 21-12, 21-04. Doubles: Ashwani and Rahul bt Deepak and Mukesh 21-09, 21-07.
GCET beat GDC Billawar 3-0: Singles: Anit Singh bt Sahil Kumar 21-07, 21-11; Rohil Pandohi beat Bopinder Singh 21-12, 21-07. Doubles: Anit and Rohil bt Sahil and Akash 21-07, 21-16.
Government MAM College beat GGM Science College 3-1: Singles: Deepak Kumar lost Aman Badyal 21-05, 21-08; Arjun Singh bt Prince 18-21, 21-16, 21-11. Doubles: Deepak and Arjun bt Aman and Ayush 21-18, 11-21, 21-19. Reverse singles: Raghav bt Rahul- 21-16, 21-16.
GCW Parade, Gandhi Nagar women in QFs
Meanwhile, the title holders, Government College for Women (GCW), Parade and their counterparts from GCW Gandhi Nagar five teams today reached the quarterfinals of women's badminton beating their opponents in the second round of pre-quarterfinals today. Today's second round matches were officiated by the technical penal including Vikram Jamwal, Ravish Vaid, Pankaj, Suresh, Amit, Ajay, Sunil, Charanjeet, Rakesh and Kulvinder.
