| JU PIO cheats RTI activist twice | | Seeks inflated amount for providing trivial information | | Arun Singh Jammu, Sept 26: Deceiving an RTI applicant twice, Public Information Officer (PIO) Jammu University provided information to the seekers in 343 pages against the payment of fee for 478 pages and earlier he was provided same information in single page against the payment for 478 pages ostensibly in violation of Jammu and Kashmir Right To Information (RTI) Act 2009. RTI activist Raj Kumar told Early Times that he had sought information regarding daily wagers engaged in Jammu University and particularly the details of son of a Union leader, working as daily wager and was asked to deposit fee of Rs. 956 @ Rs. 2 per photocopy for 478 pages but surprisingly he was given detail of information in just 343 pages which was 135 pages less. Earlier, PIO Jammu University had asked the information seekers to deposit Rs. 956 for details of sought information comprising of 478 pages but provided irrelevant information in just single page. This RTI activist on June 24 2013 had moved an RTI application seeking information in connection with daily wagers engaged in Jammu University. He further said that as per letter PIO/JU/13/167 dated 22-07-2013, PIO-II Satish Chander Sharma, in communiqué asked the RTI activist to deposit fee of Rs. 956 @ Rs. 2 per photocopy for 478 pages in the University's account number, enabling them to process further in the matter as required under rule. RTI activist on August, 3, 2013 paid Rs. 956 through treasury Sadar Jammu in general account of RTI 0070 and then sent the original receipt through Vice Chancellor of University of Jammu. Much to surprise of RTI activist, as per letter number PIO-II/JU/13/267 dated, August, 8, 2013, the PIO furnished information in single page. The RTI activist had sought information regarding daily wagers working in University of Jammu, but PIO provided totally wrong information viz-a-viz minutes of meeting of the selection committee constituted as per UGC regulations 2010 for the promotion of Associate Professor to the post of Professor in the department of Law under Career Advancement Scheme held under 20 January, 2012 at 3 PM in the office Chambers of the Vice Chancellor New University Campus. Criticizing Jammu University, Vice Chancellor and State Information Commission, Raj Kumar resented that it seemed that State Information Commission and Jammu University authorities were hand in glove. "So far almost 7 complaints against Jammu University are pending in SIC and Jammu office of SIC has referred all complaints to Srinagar without any valid reason", he lambasted. Making an appeal to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Raj Kumar said that at one hand allegations of corruption have been leveled against RTI activists, but on the other RTI activists were being looted in the name of providing information.
