| Samba militant attack: Govt, agencies caught napping again | | Time to silence din over AFSPA revocation | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 26: The Militant strike in Hiranagar and Samba that left nine people killed Thursday morning has put a question mark on the demand of revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from the State. According to political analysts the attack has again caught the administration napping as it had failed to evolve a strategy before hand to combat such attacks despite knowing fully well that the cross border firing was going on from last few months on LoC with Pak army's intention of facilitating infiltration. Though the attack by the terrorists was carried out to turn the opinion of international community towards the Kashmir in view of UN General Assembly session at new York and the talks between the Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharief, the Pakistan also wanted to create a fear psychosis among the masses and boost the morale of the separatists and terrorists who had become disillusioned in the State with the 24 year long turmoil and blood shed, the political analysts said. Accusing the Government of not taking preemptive measures to combat such attacks, the analysts said that the Government should change the strategy in dealing with militants and combating their attacks. No Government can afford to be silent spectator to happenings on border and violation of cease fire by the neighboring country repeatedly. Moreover the digging of a long tunnel across the border in Samba Sector over a year back was enough reason for the Government to increase the vigil and set up nakas at different places on Jammu Pathankote National highway as well as establish a security ring on entire border right from Kathua to Poonch by establishing VDCs and equipping them with sophisticated weapons to maintain round the clock vigil in their areas, analysts maintained. Instead of this the Government has itself been advocating for revocation of AFSPA, disbanding of VDCs and removal of army from various areas in the State. Such an action will not only prove suicidal but also demoralize the security forces engaged in fighting the terrorism in the State. Besides this will also provide a golden opportunity to the militants to regroup , analysts added. |
