Omar violating oath of office, subverting Constitution
Senseless accession, merger controversy

JAMMU, Oct 27: A number of functions were held on Saturday to celebrate the accession day. It was on October 26, 1947 that Jammu & Kashmir acceded to India in terms of the constitutional law on the subject. The NC leaders were conspicuous by their absence in these functions. It is understandable. For, the NC it doesn't consider Jammu & Kashmir an integral part of India. In fact, many speakers on Saturday charged the NC leaders in general and NC working president and Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in particular with violating the oath of office and subverting the Jammu & Kashmir Constitution. Some of the speakers even demanded action against him saying what Omar Abdullah said on the floor of the Assembly on October 6, 2010 and March 25, 2013 and on September 25, 2013 during his meeting with the visiting European delegation at Srinagar were acts of sedition".
Surprisingly, on Thursday, senior Congress leader and former minister Abdul Gani Vakil had also accused the Chief Minister of adopting "double standards" and said that "Omar Abdullah had not only questioned accession and merger of the state with India but had referred to the same as conditional".
On October 6, Omar Abdullah had said that Jammu & Kashmir had only acceded and not merged with India. On March 25, he had went several steps further and not only reiterated his October 6 stand, but also ridiculed the Indian lawmakers and others saying "by repeating the words atoot ang (integral part) you cannot change the political status of Jammu & Kashmir".
On September 25, Omar Abdullah had sought to internationalize the Kashmir issue during his meeting with the European delegation. He had, inter-alia, said: "While all the (princely) states acceded to Union of India and then merged with it, the Jammu & Kashmir only acceded and not merged. That is why we have special status, our constitution and the state flag. The political issues of Kashmir are born with the militancy in 1990 but their genesis is long back associated with the partition of the country when the future of all (princely) states was decided other than Jammu & Kashmir".
It is clear from the statements made by Omar Abdullah that he did violate the oath of office and subverted the Jammu & Kashmir Constitution which says that Jammu & Kashmir is an integral part of India and its status cannot be altered. Those who took on Omar Abdullah and demanded action against him cannot be questioned because whatever they said was absolutely correct. It is indeed a matter of grave concern that we have in the border state of Jammu & Kashmir who, instead defending the constitution, has been repeatedly subverting it and violating the oath of office. Omar Abdullah is a violator of the constitution, but the real culprit is the Congress-UPA Government which has given him a freehand to unsettle the settled in Jammu & Kashmir.
