| Congress strategizes to outsmart NC in next Assembly elections | | Party targets 40 seats | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 27: To outsmart coalition partner National Conference in the coming Assembly elections the Congress party has been working on a deliberated strategy to field winnable candidates on all 37 seats of Jammu province and on as many seats of Kashmir Valley. Although State Congress leadership has been claiming to form government on its own, the party has been working on 60 odd seats out of which Congress can win atleast 40 on its own. Insiders in the Congress said that party apart from 37 seats of Jammu province Congress has also decided to fully concentrate on four seats of Ladakh region. Historic victory of party in Kargil Council elections has boosted morale of the party leadership so Congress has logic to concentrate on all the four seats of Ladakh region. Leh district is already a stronghold of Congress and victory in Kargil has encouraged the state leaders. Insiders said that during the visit of newly appointed AICC general secretary incharge of J&K Congress, Ambika Soni, State Congress leaders as well as Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has informed that in the prevailing circumstances Congress was in a position to win as many as 40 seats easily so there is need to devise a well knit strategy in this regard. "After meeting with Ambika Soni it has been decided that only winnable candidates should be given the party mandates especially in Jammu region", insiders said and disclosed that party has also decided to rope in some potential leaders of other parties and some candidates- who had performed well in the last Assembly elections. Recent joining of some prominent persons of other parties especially from PDP is first step towards accomplishing new task assigned by the party high command to state leadership. The high command has asked both the warring factions of the party to shun their differences to win as many as 40 assembly seats on the coming Assembly elections. |
