| DB takes cognizance of media reports, summons status report in PIL | | Jasrota Forest Encroachment | | Jammu, Nov 12: In a Public Interest Litigation filed by S Harbhajan Singh and ors seeking conservation, preservation and protection of water bodies and seasonal nullahs, khuds/ponds after setting the natural recourses free from land grabbers, forest mafia, criminals and other miscreants having bureaucrats nexus and even patronization of political mentors in the interest of Public Existence of society as whole, today took a new turn when the Division Bench of the State High Court comprising Chief Justice MM Kumar and Justice Hasnain Massodi took cognizance of the media reports highlighting encroachment of 1000 Kanals of Forest Land at Jasrota in a Forest Compartment in District Kathua. While taking cognizance of the media reports, Division Bench expressed its strong resentment/anguish over the encroachment of forest land in the state of Jammu & Kashmir. Adv Rajinder Jamwal appearing for the PIL drew the attention of the Division Bench to the various media reports annexed with the petition highlighting encroachment of more than 3000 Kanals of forest land in Jammu District only. He also referred the latest encroachment of 1000 Kanals of forest land at Jasrota by Land Mafia. After hearing both the sides, Division Bench observed that the Adv Rajinder Jamwal for the PIL has pointed out that at Jasrota in District Kathua 1000 Kanals of forest land has been encroached as per the reports in the media. Upon this Division Bench directed Additional Advocate General HA Siddiqui to file a sttaus report with regard to the encroachment made on the forest land in District Kathua. Division Bench granted two weeks time to the State for filling status report and also AAG HA Siddqui to file the objections to the main PIL. (JNF) |
