State Baseball tourney begins

SRINAGAR, Nov 12: Organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Baseball Association, the Eighth State Championship got underway at Islamia College of Science and Commerce (ICSC), here today.
Twenty teams in boys and 12 in girls section are taking part in this competition to be held on knock-out basis under the guidance of experts in the field. The event is sponsored by the J&K State Sports Council.
Principal of Islamia College of Science and Commerce, Prof (Dr) Mohammad Aslam Baba inaugurated the championship. Prominent among others present were Director Sports, ICSC, Prof Altaf-ur-Rehman, Manager Sports Council, Mushtaq Ahmad Sheikh Mohammad Shafi and Mohammad Amin Shah.
Earlier, general secretary of the Association, Fida Hussain Fidvi welcomed the distinguished gathering and the participating teams. He assured fair play during the state championship. It will be during this competition that state baseball team will be selected by the Association.
Pulwama Sport Climbing meet held

SRINAGAR, Nov 12: Pulwama District Sport Climbing meet, organised by Sunridges Trekking and Mountaineering Club Ratnipora in Pulwama, held at TRC Sport Climbing Wall, Nowgam, here.
About 71 climbers, including eight girls, from the district took part in this day-long competition conducted under the aegis of Mountaineering Association of J&K in with co-operation with Directorate of Tourism, Kashmir. The event was sponsored by J&K State Sports Council.
Earlier, the competition held in five different categories of senior and junior girls and senior, junior and sub-junior boys on 'Top Rope' under the overall supervision of mountaineering instructor of Tourism Department, Parvez Ahmad.
Secretary, Sunridges Trekking and Mountaineering Club, Jameel Mustafa was chief guest in the prize distribution function. He appreciated the boys for their interest in the game and thanked Department of Tourism for providing the infrastructure and technical help. He also extended his gratitude to the State Sports Council and Mountaineering Association of J&K for their assistance.

GIRLS: Senior Rafia Yousuf, GHSS Pulwama, Ist; Sabiya Moosa, Imamia Club Gangoo, 2nd and Vakeela, Imamia Club, 3rd. Junior: Sehar-u-Tamanna, Ist; Beenish Mumtaaz (both of Valen Teens School Ratnipora), 2nd and Mir Saima Jan, Goodwill Public School Ratnipora, 3rd.
BOYS:
Senior: Reyaz Ahmad of Ambali Club Pahoo, Ist; Mohd. Hussain Dar of Imamia Club, 2nd and Sammer Ahmad of Parigam, 3rd. Junior: Syed Junaid of Al-Habeeb Public School Pulwama, Ist; Farhat Ayub, 2nd and Owais of IEI Pahoo, 3rd. Sub-junior: Ahsan-Ul-Mushtaq of Valen Teens School, Ist; Suhaib Salam, 2nd and Syed Furqan Andrabi of Valen Teens School, 3rd.
