Sports Reporter JAMMU, Nov 12: Semifinals line-up has been drawn in the ongoing annual inter-college (men's) hockey tournament, organised by the Department of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu on the campus grounds, here today. Teams reaching the last four stages are defending champion, MAM College, last year's runners-up, Government Degree College (GDC) Poonch, the combined side of Post Graduate (PG) Departments of Arts and GDC Kathua. Now, in the semifinals, to be played tomorrow, GDC Poonch shall take on GDC Kathua at 10 am, followed by the match between PG Arts and MAM College. Earlier, in the quarterfinals, played today, GDC Kathua blanked GDC Hiranagar 3-0. Gulshan Sharma of Kathua scored the hat trick striking in the third, fifth and 17th minutes of the match. In other last eight stages match, PG Arts defeated Government SPMR College of Commerce by a solitary goal. The only goal of the match came in the 46th minute through Charanjit Singh. To reach the semifinals, title holders, MAM College defeated GGM Science College by three goals to nil. Though Science College took the early lead netting the first goal in the 15th minute through Varinder Vikram, yet they could not hold their nerves after the breather and conceded three goals. Satwant scored two goals for the winners netting the ball in 37th and 44th minute. Parvinder Singh (32nd) was other scorer. In the fourth quarterfinal, GDC Poonch got walkover in view of failure of PG Law and Science and GDC Rajouri to report. |
