| GHSS Bishnah boys, APS girls lift volleyball titles | | | Sports Reporter JAMMU, Nov 12: The young and agile side of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Bishnah lifted the Jammu District Volleyball trophy after they beat equally good Volleyball Club Pallanwala 3-2 in the final match played at MA Stadium. In this lively title clash, both sides played brilliant game to the complete enjoyment of the selected distinguished gathering. Since both the finalist teams were from out of city limits, they could not find the real supporters to cheer for them. However, the performance from both the sides was highly appreciated by the senior office bearers of the Volleyball Association of J&K and other distinguished gathering. Down by two sets 19-25, 23-25, the composed side of GHSS Bishnah maintained their cool and turned the game around taking advantage of over confidence of the Pallanwala boys. Technically well equipped, the Pallanwala Club could not understand the sudden change in the strategy of their counterparts from Bishnah and caved-in, losing three sets in a row to give away the all important game 3-2. The score: 19-25, 23-25, 25-21, 25-23, 15-09. Meanwhile, in women's section, the title trophy went to Army Public School (APS) BD Bari, who beat Trikuta Club in straight sets 25-15, 25-22, 25-23. Today's final matches were officiated by the technical penal including Amarjeet Singh, Mulkh Raj Sharma, Naresh Kumar, Jatinderpaul and Jewan. In the men's final and valedictory function, Minister for Housing and Culture, Raman Bhalla was chief guest, who presented winners and runners-up trophies. Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Kiran Wattal was guest of honour. Speaking to the gathering, Minister assured the Association of improvement in the existing infrastructure for the game by way of adding Flood Lights and change room facilities. Earlier, general secretary of the Association, Kuldeep Magotra welcomed the chief guest and other distinguished gathering while organising secretary, Ramesh Chander Sharma presented vote of thanks. Prominent among others present were Director Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau, Joint Secretary, J&K State Sports Council, Siddharth Sharma, secretary, J&K Olympic Association, Ashutosh Sharma Dr Brij Baloria and Rashid Ahmed as also Sudershan Gupta, Bhagwant Singh Mastana and Sidharth Daluja. |
