PC-PNDT programme organized

Sunderbani, Nov 12: A colourful programme regarding PC-PNDT Act (Pre-conceptual and Prenetal Sex Selection /Determination-2006) was conducted at Govt. Girls Hr. Secondary School, Block Sunderbani, District Rajouri, Province Jammu (J&K).
The programme was organized by a volunteer organization 'Society for Scheduled & Backwards, Jammu (J&K) and the same was sponsored by the PC-PNDT Division, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India, New Delhi. The Act, inter-alia, seeks to ban the use of sex selection techniques before and after conception as well as misuse of prenatal diagnostic techniques for sex selective abortions and to regulate such techniques.
In the programme General Secretary of the implementing agency, Tariq Mirza said that the act also provides provision for strict action against those individuals and genetic laboratories /clinics/centers which offer sex determination services.
Similar penalty provisions exist for those who seek such services also.
A renowned social worker Arun Khajuia sensitized the huge gathering about the reconstitution of regulatory bodies and appreciated about pious job undertaken by the implementing agency about the issues related to girl child are being held in the schools etc. on regular basis to educate the prospective parents.
Govind Sharma, BMO Sunderbani, Rajouri (J&K) also delivered a very informative and decisive lecture to the crowed and sensitized about the role of NRHM, PRIs, NGOs, Doctors, Paramedics/ ASHAs/ Staff Nurses/ AWW etc which was appreciated by everybody.
Zulifkar Malik, Adv. J&K High Court, Jammu head of the legal cell of the implementing agency made aware the public / audience about the legal prospects of the PC-PNDT act in detail.
The religious preachers from all sections of the society also made aware the public through their respective religions to save the girl child.
The principal of the school Kundan Lal Raina, appreciated the steps taken by the organization to implement such type of programmes and invited the organization to conduct such programmes in future too. At the end of the programme the prizes were also given away to every participant and vote of thanks was given by the secretary of the organization.
