Udhampur, Nov 12: Several initiatives taken by district police to keep sacred Devika river pollution free is being foiled by local administration as beside advocating local residents to construct safety tanks it is making hurdles to do so . According to reports, to keep sacred Devika pollution free and beauty of its surroundings four months ago, district police had launched a plantation drive under the supervision of Anil Magotra, SSP Udhampur in Sergah road (circular road) adjoining holy river Devika and about 1,000 plants of various varieties were planted . Police had also requested the populace living along river Devika not to open their drain, toilet outlets in river Devika and advised them to construct separate septic tanks for their usage rather than opening their drains toilet outlets towards river Devika thereby making it more and more polluted. Police had also taken affidavit from some residents in this regard to construct septic tanks. It quite amazing that when we started constructing septic tanks people from district administration, Patwaris started making hurdles in this regard, alleged a local resident Raghav Sharma . He added that besides appreciating local populace helping in maintaining the sanctity of the holy river Devika, administration is harassing and discouraging them to do so. Another local resident Satnam Singh alleged that administration has closed its eyes towards encroachment by influential persons and some revenue officials in nexus with them has grabbed water bodies by constructing pillars and laying lantern upon it but instead of restricting them to do so, administration is harassing common masses if they are making any effort to keep river pollution free. |
