Painting competition on World Diabetes Day held

Jammu, Nov 12: In connection with the celebration of World Diabetes Day , falling on 14th Nov , 14th Annual on the spot painting cum poster competition was held at Kamala Palace, Jammu, which was organised by Janta diabetes care centre, Talab Tillo and JKFAS.
World Diabetes Day is celebrated to mark the birthday of Dr. Feddrick Banting (Noble Prize Winner) who discovered Insulin in 1921, which has saved and changed life of millions of diabetics.
Dr. Raj Kumar Sharma, Sr. Diabetologist , Jammu also a well know artist has been working relentlessly to make people to make people aware about this disease and remove the myths about management of diabetes.
In connection with creating awareness about the disease this painting completion was held in which 20 prestigious school of Jammu participated with more than 200 students putting their thoughts and concepts with the help of paint and brush on paper.
Children are the best guide for the parents or relatives as they can enforce proper life style modifications in them and can carry forward these precautions in future themselves which will lead on to decrease in the incidence of diabetes which is galloping at the moment.
The painting competition was held on following concepts put forward by Dr. Raj Kumar Sharma know your disease and live longer, Fast food kills fast, Optimum calories , lesser the diabetes and insulin a friend in need. Dr. Sharma discussed about the various aspects in the management of the disease and that certain precautions can help in management of diabetes and prevent long term complications. This year the emphasis is on treatment of children with diabetes, the number of whom is increasing every year as they need special care and access to proper treatment. "Let the children with diabetes to live happily and to provide Diabetic care for all "is the slogan of this year's Diabetes day.
He further emphasised that by regular monitoring of blood sugar and consultation with doctor, Long term complications like that of heart , kidneys ,brain, eyes and legs which are cause of great morbidity and mortality can be checked .
The students in their way painted the slogans. The quality of the paintings and posters was excellent. Paints were judged by Jaipal Singh, Chander Prakash, Sunder, Vijay Gupta, Sushant Dubey and Mukul Mangotra
