| NRHM medicos outwit Govt | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Nov 19: Outwitting the State Government, the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) medicos have refused Government's proposal of a salary hike. "We will work on our previous salaries but please pay us in time," the medicos conveyed the message to a stunned Government. This is the first time when someone has took such a stand and this is being perceived as a slap on the face of the Government. This has also exposed the flaws in running the NRHM scheme. The medicos have urged the Government to reserve seats for them in Post graduation for their services in rural areas. The president of the NRHM doctors' association, Dr Sohail while putting forth this demand said some seats need to be reserved like other quota. Pertinent to mention, the NRHM doctors are not paid salary on time. The Government has now launched six-month-performance test which is going to decide the fate of the doctors. Sohail terms this sheer injustice. He has sought a proper mechanism. The doctors and the para-medical staff, by and large are dismayed with the scheme as not only their salary is withheld but no incentives are given to them as well. Interestingly the Government has suggested a payment of Rs 55000 to an MBBS doctor posted in an inaccessible but the NRHM doctors are not paid. The Director, State Health Society, J&K, Dr. Yashpal Sharma said the State Government is doing everything to make the scheme a success. |
