PDP hits back, charges NC with selling out people's trust
Politics of attacks and counter attacks

Jammu, Nov 19: Stung by the NC attack the PDP on Monday had hit back and charged the NC with bartering the trust and confidence of the people of the state to enjoy loaves and fishes of office. The attack this time came from PDP president Mehbooba Mufti. Without mincing words, she said that the people of the state in general and Kashmir valley in particular would avenge their humiliations and teach the NC a befitting lesson. Her charge against the NC was very specific and the charge was that the NC has consistently sold out the trust and confidence of the people of Kashmir for power and luxuries.
"Omar Abdullah has nothing to show as his performance report to the people at the end of his tenure and he is resorting to lies and concocted stories to divert attention of people from the reality. Omar Abdullah's misrule stands out for atrocities, corruption and a complete collapse of administration," she, among other things, said while addressing public meetings at Magam and Wadipora in Handwara constituency and asserted that the people will not forgive the NC for its misdeeds and misrule. She also expressed the view that the NC could join any political party at the Centre to remain in power. What she said could be construed as a scathing attack on the NC leadership, especially the Abdullahs, and the attack came a day after Omar Abdullah accused the PDP of flirting with the BJP leaders, including the party veteran L K Advani and BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. Infact, Omar Abdullah had charged the PDP leadership of hatching conspiracies against the NC and suggested that both the PDP and the BJP were working in tandem to ensure the formation of a non-Congress and non-NC Government in the state. There are cogent reasons to believe that both the Kashmir-based parties would further sharpen their attacks against each other in their desperate bid to outwit each other. In other words, the Kashmir valley is all set to witness politics of blistering attacks and equally fierce counter attacks. There is no problem if they do so in the coming days to score political points. However, they would do well to eschew the politics of competitive communalism and secessionism. They should focus their attention only on issues of governance as well as the problems facing the people of the state. This is what democracy warrants.
